LAWRENCE Kan. - The UALR tennis team kicked off the season Friday (Sept. 21) when it made the trip to Kansas for the first of two fall KU Invitationals.
Senior Yana Kakovkina headlined the day for the Trojans, dropping a tough match to Paulina Los of Kansas at Singles D draw 6-3, 7-6 (6). Classmate Veronique Luksich fell in the Singles B bracket to Lizzy Thoms of Texas-Arlington 6-3, 6-2. Junior Viktoriya Plyuta lost both sets 6-1 in the Singles A bracket to Veronika Blaskova of Wichita State.
Sophomore Michaela McShane lost to Jamie Lee Denton of Abilene Christian 6-2, 6-1. In her first collegiate competition, Christel Amsallem lost both sets 6-1 to Hayley Fournier of Kansas.
UALR finishes out the weekend with five matches each Saturday and Sunday.
