John Evans was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for Facilties and Events in Aug. 2013. Evans began his tenure at UALR in 2001 as Assistant Sports Information Director and has served as the Director of the Jack Stephens Center since 2004.
Evans currently oversees the daily operation of the Jack Stephens Center, the home for UALR men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball that features 12 luxury suites and houses the Department of Athletics’ administrative offices. His supervision of the 5,600-seat facility also includes the Legends Room, UALR academic learning center, weight room, sports therapy and hydrotherapy room and Derek Fisher Court.
Prior to joining UALR in May of 2001, Evans spent nine seasons at the Assistant General Manager for the Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club, the AA Texas League affiliate of the Anaheim Angels. As assistant GM for the Travs, Evans was responsible for the food and beverage operation at Ray Winder Field, along with merchandise sales, advertising sales, stadium operations and media/community relations.
In his role as assistant SID at UALR, Evans was responsible for the promotion of the volleyball, women's basketball, baseball, tennis and swimming programs. He was also a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
A native of Irving, Texas, Evans graduated from Texas Tech University in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management.
