Trojans Earn Fifth-Place at UALR Christmas Invite

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. The UALR Trojans Swimming and Diving team finished fifth with 280.5 points in the six-team UALR Christmas Invite held Friday and Saturday at the Donaghey Center Natatorium.


Missouri State took home first-place with 997 points while Henderson State finished second with 635.5. Following the Red Wave was Ouachita Baptist in fourth with 441.5. Finishing behind the Trojans was Hendrix College with 239 points.


Stephanie Heutel earned a seventh-place finish out of 16 swimmers for the Trojans in the 200-yard after finishing with a 2:01.84 preliminary time and a 2:05.97 finals time. Chelsea Churchill finished 11th in the race with times of 2:05.13 and 2:03.77.


The 200-yard breaststroke race saw Brenda Gannon finish 10th of 16 with a finals time of 2:37.54. In the 100-yard backstroke, Jenna Rutecki had a time good enough to earn her an eighth-place finish out of 15 swimmers with a time of 1:05.57.


During the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries, Heutel finished ninth with a time of 56.10 and Churchill 11th with a mark of 57.65.


UALR will return to action on Friday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Cleveland, Miss. for the Delta State Invite for their final event of 2008. The Trojans first event in 2009 will take place Jan. 9-10 at Tunica, Miss. where they will compete with teams from Centenary, Rhodes and Western Illinois in the Tunica Invitational.
