LITTLE ROCK -
The UALR men's basketball team added to its 2012-13 incoming class on Wednesday with the signing of 6-1 guard Kemy Osse
(Montreal, Canada/Archbishop Carroll HS). Osse averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game as a senior at Archbishop Carroll during the 2010-11 season.
"Kemy is a strong, physical guard who is an excellent three-point shooter. He also has the ability to get to the rim and can score it off the dribble," said UALR head coach Steve Shields. "He fits a definite need on our team as a scoring guard, and is a high-character young man."
Osse played under former Georgetown All-American and NBA veteran Reggie Williams as a senior at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C. Competing in the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, Osse had a couple of 30-point games as a senior and helped the Lions win one playoff game before losing to DeMatha in the second round.
"Kemy brought leadership, toughness and aggression to both ends of the court. He's a very good shooter. If you leave him open you can count it. He's got a big body, but he can maneuver around smaller guards and create space to get his jump shot off," said Williams. "We always counted on him as the competition got tougher. He's a fearless competitor and a great person too."
In addition to his three years at Archbishop Carroll, Osse played for the Canadian Junior National Team in the FIBA Americas Under-18 and Under-19 Championships the past two summers, where he was the third-leading scorer behind Myck Kabongo (Texas) and Kyle Wiltjer (Kentucky). The Canadian team earned a bronze medal at the Under-18 Championships in the summer of 2010, finishing third behind Brazil and the United States.
"Kemy is an unbelievable shooter and a great kid. He's a gym rat," said Archbishop Carroll assistant coach Tony Reynolds. "I think Arkansas-Little Rock is getting a steal. He was getting looked at by a lot of schools, including Massachusetts and VCU."
Osse is the sixth player to sign with UALR for the 2012-13 season, joining point guards John Gillon (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit) and Josh Hagins (Bossier City, La./Airline HS), wing players Stetson Billings (Strong, Ark./Strong-Hutting HS) and Mareik Isom (Austin, Texas/Bowie HS), and 6-11 center Andrew Poulter (New Braunfels, Texas/Canyon HS).
The Trojans lose four seniors to graduation off this year's West Division Championship squad in D'Andre Williams, Courtney Jackson, Tramar Sutherland and Marlon Louzeiro, as well as sophomore Chuck Guy, who has elected to transfer to be closer to home.
