LITTLE
ROCK
- The UALR Trojans dropped a 3-1 decision to Austin Peay on Sunday in the first
ever match played at the Trojans' new Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex.
Sophomore Ariel Galletti gave UALR
an early lead with a score in the 12th minute of the match, but
Austin Peay found the equalizer at the 23:19 mark before netting two more
scores in the second half to bring the game to its final tally.
Austin Peay kept the pressure on the Trojan defense all
afternoon, putting up 24 total shots compared to UALR's 12. Peay outshot UALR
14-5 and led in corner kicks 3-0 in the second half alone. The Lady Govs
finished with a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
Junior Paige
Mason led all UALR players with four shots in the match, including two on
frame. Galletti put both of her shots on frame, while sophomore Lexus VanPelt also put two shots on
target for the Trojans.
Junior Natalie
Marsh started the game in goal for the Trojans and played 52:46 before
being relieved by freshman Shantel
Wittke. Marsh finished the contest with 13 saves, while Wittke played the
final 37:14 without facing a shot.
Haylee Shoaff played the first half for Austin Peay in
goal and made four stops before being relieved by Nikki Filippone at halftime.
Fillippone finished the match with three saves.
Galletti's score at the 11:23 mark was the first of the
season for the Trojans and came off the rebound of an Alyson Rohane shot. Rohane's low roller forced Shoaff to dive right
to make the stop, but the deflection bounced right to Galletti, who was able to
capitalize and give UALR the early 1-0 lead.
Peay answered at the 23:19 mark, as Taylor Van Wagner
scored unassisted to knot the score.
Neither team found the net again for the remainder of
the half. Peay finished the period with a 10-7 lead in shots, while the Trojans
led 4-2 in corner kicks at the break.
Andy Quineco scored the go-ahead goal for Peay just 1:35
in to the second half. Quineco beat Marsh bottom left to give the Lady Govs
their first lead of the contest. Emily Perkins then put the game out of reach with
a goal at the 70:14 mark to give Austin Peay a 3-1 lead. Morgan Zigelsky
supplied the helper on Perkins' goal.
UALR will have the week off before it returns to action
on Sunday, Aug. 26 with a home contest against Western Illinois. First kick is
slated for 1 p.m.
