LITTLE
ROCK
- UALR (0-4-0) will make the short trip to Conway for its matchup with UCA
(5-1-0) on Wednesday at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. The
Trojans will be searching for their first win of the 2012 season, while UCA
will be looking to make it three-straight and six of seven to start the year.
UALR has never lost to UCA in its history, holding a
5-0-0 record in the all-time series and outscoring the Bears 15-2 in the five
matchups. The Trojans won a 2-1 decision last season in Little Rock, scoring
two goals in the second half to overcome a 1-0 deficit at intermission.
Departed seniors Christina Veasley
and Kristen Semko supplied the second-half
scores for the Trojans.
The Trojans fell in their only match of the Labor Day
Weekend, dropping an 8-0 contest at Ole Miss on Friday, Aug. 31. The Rebels
outshot UALR by a 31-4 count in the match, including 18-2 in shots on goal.
Mandy McCalla and Olivia Harrison scored two goals each to lead an Ole Miss offense
that racked up 21 total points in the game. Freshman Shantel Wittke earned the second start of her career in goal for
the Trojans in Oxford and stopped nine shots while allowing six goals in 60:33
of action. Junior Natalie Marsh came
on in relief for the final 29:27 and made one save while allowing two goals.
The loss at Ole Miss continued the Trojans' offensive
woes through the season's first four matches. UALR has scored just two goals
this season, one each by sophomores Ariel
Galletti and Alyson Rohane. As a
team, UALR has been outscored 23-2 by its opponents, and outshot 104-23. The
Trojans have put 14 of their 23 shots on target for a .609 shots-on-goal
percentage.
Wittke and Marsh have split time at goalkeeper for the Trojans.
Wittke started the season opener at Missouri State before her second start last
weekend at Ole Miss, while Marsh made starts at home against Austin Peay and
Western Illinois. Marsh has logged 191:41 of action with Wittke accounting for the
remaining 168:19. Marsh leads the Sun Belt with 34 saves and ranks fifth in
save percentage (.791). Wittke has stopped 13 shots for a .542 save percentage.
UCA improved its record to 5-1 on the season with a 3-0
shutout of Alabama A&M on Sunday, Sept. 2. The Bears have already put up 23
goals on the season (3.83 per match), eclipsing their season total of 22 from last
year. Eight different players have found the back of the net for the Bears this
season. Adriana Lucur leads the team with eight goals, followed by Marisela
Chavez and Cristin Curl with four scores each. Kristin Pollard and Abigail
Hodgson have each supplied three assists to tie for the team lead. Lucar's
team-leading eight goals are highlighted by a hat trick in the team's 7-1 win
over Mississippi Valley State on Friday, Aug. 31.
