LAWRENCE, Kan. - The UALR tennis team bounced back on day two at the KU Invitational, placing four into consolation bracket finals.
Freshmen Christel Amsallem claimed her first collegiate win with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Chiara Stefanov of Arkansas State. Sophomore Michaela McShane kept up the pattern of beating Red Wolves with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sofia Krsmanovic in the Singles H Draw consolation semifinals.
Seniors Yana Kakovkina and Veronique Luksich round out the successful singles day for the Trojans. Kakovkina captured a 6-3, 6-1 win over Michelle Elkin of South Dakota in the Singles D consolation bracket. Luksich advanced in Singles B Draw with a bye.
Doubles Draw B saw UALR win and take runners-up honors in the consolation bracket. Luksich teamed up with Ana Gomez of Kansas State and after a tough 9-7 loss, the duo claimed wins of 8-6 and 8-3 to reach the finals. In that match, Luksich and Gomez took out Abilene Christian's Emily Conrad and Jamie Lee Denton 9-8 (8). McShane and Amsallem took out Gabriela Pintos and Maddie Schulte of Missouri-Kansas City 8-6 in the other half of the consolation bracket.
UALR will finish up singles play tomorrow in the KU Invite.
