LAWRENCE, Kan. - UALR senior Emelie Westrup shot a one-over par 73 in the final round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday to finish in a tie for third place. Westrup was the only player to place in the top-25 for UALR, which carded a 319 team score in the final round to finish ninth at the 13-team event.
Host Kansas posted the lowest score of the day in the final round (305) to finish at 42-over par 906, and earn a 21-stroke victory over second-place Arkansas State (927). Kansas State finished third at 64-over par 928, followed by North Dakota State in fourth place at 82-over par 946. The Trojans finished seven shots out of fourth place at 89-over par 953 (320-314-319).
ASU's Abigail Laker fired a two-under par 70 in the final round to capture medalist honors with a three-under par 213 total (74-69-70). Laker was the only player to shoot a sub-par round at the 6,636-yard, par-72 Alvamar Golf Course, and finished eight strokes up on second-place Thanuttra Boonraksasat (77-72-72 - 221) of Kansas. Westrup (74-75-73) shared third place with North Dakota State's Amy Anderson (75-72-75) at six-over par 222, giving the Bearums Verk, Norway-native her best finish since tying for second at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial as a sophomore (10/19/2010).
Junior Brynn Donovan was second on the squad at 26-over par 242 (81-79-82) to earn a share of 39th place. Sophomore Sofia Berglund finished at 29-over par 245 (81-82-82), followed by senior Malin Lundberg (84-86-82) and newcomer Katie Reid (89-78-86).
UALR returns to action Oct. 1-2 at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
