- Sophomore Ariel Galletti netted
two goals and junior Paige Mason
scored one goal and assisted on another, as UALR (2-14-0, 1-7-0 SBC) captured
its second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Florida Atlantic
(5-10-0, 3-5-0 SBC) Thursday night at the Coleman Sports & Recreation
Complex. Goalkeeper Natalie Marsh got
the start and played the entire match while making eight saves to pick up the
first win of her UALR career.
The Trojans put on one of their best offensive performances
of the season Thursday night, totaling three goals on 22 shots, 12 of which were
put on target. Sophomore Alyson Rohane
led UALR with eight shots. Galletti added five, while junior Adrianna Queen contributed four.
Marsh's eight saves helped the Trojans limit FAU's
offense to just one goal on the night, despite 21 shots and nine shots on goal.
Claire Emslie scored the Owls' lone goal on a penalty kick in the 30th
minute of the match.
Ashley Lantes played all 90:00 in goal for FAU, making
eight saves and allowing all three UALR goals.
All the goal-scoring came early in the match. All four
goals were accounted for within a eight-minute span, with the final goal coming
just 30 minutes into the match.
Galletti got things going with her first at the 21:15
mark, accepting a pass from Mason and beating Lantes to the lower-right corner
to make it a 1-0 contest.
Mason added her second goal of the season just five
minutes later at the 26:42 mark, connecting off a feed from freshman Galya Cohen to increase UALR's lead to
two. The assist was the first of Cohen's UALR career.
Barely a minute went by before Galletti notched her
second goal of the match at the 27:54 mark. This time, it was freshman Ashley Asuncion who fed Galletti with a
lead pass through the FAU defense. Galletti outraced the FAU goalkeeper to the
ball and finished from close range to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.
Following her performance tonight, Galletti now leads
the team with four goals on the season. It was the second two-goal night of her
career, as she also scored two goals against Florida Atlantic last season
(Sept. 25, 2011) in UALR's 4-1 victory at Burns Park.
UALR now heads to Miami, Fla., to face FIU on
Sunday at 12 p.m. The Trojans then return home for senior night against
in-state rival Arkansas State on Friday, Oct. 26.
