MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The UALR women's golf team posted the second-lowest score of the day in Tuesday's final round to finish third at the 18-team Blue Raider Invitational. Senior Malin Lundberg tied for sixth place at seven-over par 223 to lead the Trojans, while junior Brynn Donovan earned a share of 23rd place after pacing the team with a one-over par 73 in the final round.
Host Middle Tennessee closed out the event with a 10-over par 298 at the par-72, 6,177-yard Old Fort Golf Club to secure the team championship. The Blue Raiders finished at 25-over par 889 to earn a 16-stroke victory over second-place Morehead State (905). The Trojans posted the second-lowest round on Tuesday with a 14-over par 302, and finished one-shot back of Morehead State at 42-over par 906 (298-306-302).
Southern Illinois' Cassie Rushing and Jacksonville State's Maya Parsons entered the final round tied for first place atop the individual leader board at even-par 144. Rushing captured medalist honors by firing a 73 in the final round, while Parsons' carded an 80 over the last 18 holes. Rushing finished at one-over par 217 (72-72-73) to earn a four-stroke victory over Lamar's Julie Aime (74-74-73) and MT's Avery George (74-73-74), who shared second place at five-over par 221.
Lundberg paced the Trojans at seven-over par 223 (73-73-77) to earn a share of sixth place, and was joined in the top-25 by Donovan (77-78-73 - 228). Senior Emelie Westrup finished one-shot back of Donovan, in a tie for 26th place at 13-over par 229 (74-78-77). Freshman Matilda Lignell accounted for UALR's second-lowest score of the final round with a three-over par 75.
The Blue Raider Invitational was the final event of the fall season for the Trojans. UALR returns to action Feb. 25-26, when it opens the spring season at the USA Women's Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
