LITTLE
ROCK
- Sophomore Ariel Galletti has been
named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week following her
two-goal performance in the Trojans' 3-1 win over Florida Atlantic on Thursday,
Oct. 18. Galletti becomes the first UALR player to win the weekly award since Christina Veasley (2008-11) collected
the honor on Oct. 20, 2009.
Galletti scored her third and fourth goals of the
season just six minutes apart to help the Trojans capture their first Sun Belt
win of the year against visiting Florida Atlantic. The sophomore's first goal came
at the 21:15 mark, when she took a pass from junior Paige Mason and beat FAU goalkeeper Ashley Lantes to the
lower-right corner to make it a 1-0 contest. After Mason added a goal of her
own, Galletti made it 3-0 at the 27:54 mark, this time taking a feed from
freshman Ashley Asuncion and scoring
from close range for her second goal of the match.
The two-goal performance was the second of Galletti's
career. The Lake Balboa, Calif.-native's other multi-goal game also came
against FAU, as she scored two goals in UALR's 4-1 win last season at Burns
Park.
Galletti leads UALR in goals (4), assists (3) and
points (11) through 17 matches this season, and is tied for the team lead in
shots on goal (17). For the weekend, the midfielder led the team with four
points, a .400 shot percentage and five shots on goal.
UALR will play its final match of the season against
Arkansas State on Friday at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex. First
kick is slated for 7 p.m.
