CONWAY, Ark. - After
a stellar day Friday by taking second in the Hendrix Classic, the UALR swim
team followed that performance with a third-place finish with 358 points
Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Hendrix Relays. Oklahoma Baptist claimed the title
with 488 points while Henderson State finished second with 375.
"After finishing second yesterday, we had a bit of a tougher
day," head coach Amy Burgess said. "But [diver Megan] Scott did follow up her
strong day yesterday with a pair of titles in the 1- and 3-meter diving
exhibitions."
While no relay team claimed a win, UALR turned in seven
runner-up finishes. In traditional college relay events, junior Holly Myers and
freshmen Amber Kelly, Natalie Swindle and Valeriya Teplova finished the 400 medley in
4:08.00. Holly Myers, Teplova, senior Amber Kelly and junior Kara Raney took second in the
400 free relay with a time of 3:38.76.
Both times were season bests for the Trojans.
UALR swept the second-place finishes in the entire 3x100 relays
in the different strokes. Sophomores Meghan Petersen and Alexis Stone teamed up
with Teplova in the breastroke with a time of 3:39.42. Senior Rebecca McEachern, Holly Myers and Raney clocked in at 3:05.85 in the backstroke while Swindle,
McEachern and senior Amy Tran finished in 3:03.92 in the butterfly.
To round out the day, junior Hope Myers, Kelly and Petersen
claimed second in the 3x100 IM with a time of 3:17.67. UALR took second and
third in the 3x500. Kelly, Stone and Holly Myers finished runner-up with a time
of 16:20.67 with Swindle, Hope Myers and sophomore Samantha Thompson close
behind with a time of 16:32.19.
The Trojans take another two weeks off before returning to
action Nov. 9-10 for the Drury Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
