JONESBORO, Ark. -
The UALR men's and women's indoor track and field teams will officially start
the 2012-13 indoor season this Sunday afternoon (Dec. 2) as they travel to
Arkansas State for the ASU Kickoff Klassic.
The season-opening non-scoring meet
will start at 12 p.m. with the throwing events and preliminary races for the
running events. The jumps and pole vault events are scheduled to begin at
1 p.m. while the running event finals are slated to get underway at 3 p.m. Full

UALR will enter the indoor track and
field season looking to build off the momentum from the cross country season.
The Trojans won its fifth Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championship and
its third in six years. The women finished seventh.
Top returners for the men's team
include senior Jason Belt, who set
new UALR records at the SBC Indoor Championships last season in both the shot
put and weight throw. He finished sixth in the weight throw with a toss of
56'8" (17.29m) while coming in eighth in the shot put with a mark of 52'2.75"
(15.92m).
On the men's side, UALR also returns
senior Markus Pearson and sophomore Casey Lane, who were both members of the
SBC championship distance medley relay team. They crossed the line in 10:15.56.
On the women's side, the Trojans
have junior Tachara Thomas
returning. Thomas was a member of the distance medley relay team, helping UALR
capture the SBC title with a time of 12:12.13.
Senior Marissa DeLaPaz comes off a successful 2012 cross country season.
She earned 3rd Team All-Conference honors after finishing 15th
at the SBC Championships with a time of 18:49.0
Besides host A-State, the ASU
Kickoff Klassic will include student-athletes representing teams from Memphis,
Central Arkansas, Missouri State, Southeast Louisiana, Arkansas Baptist,
Harding, and Mississippi Valley State. Results for the 2012 ASU Kickoff Klassic

The UALR Track and Field teams
returns to action in the new year when it makes they make their second trip to
Arkansas State for the ASU Invitational Jan. 26, 2013.
