UALR Bests Henderson State in Swimming and Diving, 156-115
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -
The Trojans captured 14 of 16 events Saturday (Jan. 12) as UALR beat Henderson
State 156-115 in swimming and diving at the Donaghey Center Natatorium.
UALR led from the start as the team of senior Amber Kelly, junior Kara Raney, sophomore Meghan Petersen and freshman Valeriya Teplova won the 200 medley
relay with a time of 1:52.35. The Trojans followed that up by taking the top
two spots in the 1000 free. Junior Holly Myers took the marathon swim with a time of 11:09.62 followed by sophomore
Alexis Stone's 11:24.45.
The event wins continued with Teplova taking the 200 free
(1:56.65) and Raney the 100 back with a time of 59:91.
UALR then took the top two spots for the 200 butterfly and
50 free. Freshman Natalie Swindle took
top honors in the butterfly with a time of 2:11.17. Kelly took second with a
time of 2:14.29. Raney and senior Rebecca McEachern went 1-2 50 in the 50 free with times of 25.37 and 25.89,
respectively.
Freshman Megan Scott,
in her first competition of 2013, took two titles. She recorded a 233.00 on the
1-meter board and a career-best 274.20 on the 3-meters.
Teplova followed the diving with a 53.75 in the 100 free,
her third win of the meet. Swindle's time of 2:12.87 in the 200 back gave the
freshman her second win of the meet. Rounding out individual event triumphs
include Petersen in the 200 breastroke (2:38.09) and Kelly in the 100 butterfly
(59.94).
In an event win swimming exhibition, the team of Raney,
Teplova, McEachern and Kelly clocked in at 1:40.59 in the 200 free relay.
UALR returns to action Friday night (Jan. 18) when it hosts
Hendrix and Rhodes at 7 p.m. The meet is the final home competition for Kelly,
McEachern and senior Amy Tran.
