TULSA, Okla. - UALR
(1-1) earned a split in its first weekend of competition in 2013 with a 7-0 loss to
25th-Ranked Tulsa (1-0) Sunday morning (Jan. 20).
Senior Veronique
Luksich lost to the 124th-ranked player in the country, Samantha
Vickers, by identical 6-2 scores at first singles. Michelle Farley beat junior Viktoriya Plyuta 6-0, 6-2 at second singles while Tulsa's
Saana Saarteinen bested senior Yana
Kakovkina 6-2, 6-1 at third singles. Sophomore Dané Vorster moved up to fourth singles against the
Golden Hurricane and lost a tough 6-3, 6-4 match against Carol Benito. Freshman
Christel Amsallem fell in the fifth spot to Renata Kuiricova 6-1, 6-0
while freshman Kamilla Galieva lost to Belen Rivera 6-2, 6-3 at sixth
singles.
In
doubles competition, Luksich and Galieva lost 7-4 at third doubles. Amsallem
and Voster lost at second doubles 8-2 while Plyuta and Kakovkina fell at first
doubles 8-0.
The
UALR tennis team returns to action Thursday (Jan. 24) when it hosts Central
Arkansas. The battle at Burns Park is set for 9 a.m.
