LITTLE ROCK - The UALR men's and women's track and
field teams will compete in their second event of the season on Friday when
they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to participate in the annual ASU Invitational. Action
will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday with field events for both the men and women.
Running events
are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with preliminaries in the 55-meter dash and
55-meter hurdles serving as the opening events. Finals will begin around 1:30
p.m.
The Trojans
competed at the ASU Kickoff Klassic on Dec. 2 in their only other action of the
2012-13 indoor track season thus far.
UALR's
day at the ASU Kickoff Klassic was highlighted by taking four of the top-five
spots in the men's 3,000-meter run, with Dustin Mettler taking first place overall.
Mettler won the event in a time of 8:34.39 and was followed by
teammate Markus Pearson, who
clocked in at 8:41.53. Chris Dunbar finished fourth in a time of 8:59.36
and Brendon Tucker placed fifth in 9:02.16. Caleb
DeLaPaz placed 11th overall in a time of 9:28.74 to round
out the Trojans' finishers.
Emma Dahl finished second to lead a
group of four UALR finishers in the women's 3,000-meter run. Dahl collected the
runner-up finish in a time of 10:21.92, and teammate Marissa
DeLaPaz placed
fourth in 10:28.74. Mackenzie Bloom finished sixth (10:35.42) and Tori
Copeland placed
11th (11:10.51) to
give UALR four finishers in the top-15.
In the throws, Jason
Belt placed third in the finals of the
men's weight throw (18.07m) and fifth in the finals of the men's shot put
(14.25m). In the women's shot put, Rebekah
Grissom placed
third (13.05m) and Melissa
Chunn finished sixth (11.94m).
Approximately 17
schools are scheduled to compete in this year's ASU Invitational, including Ole
Miss, Troy, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama, McNeese State, Southeast
Louisiana, Central Arkansas, and host Arkansas State.
Admission to the
2013 ASU Invitational is $4 for adults and $2 for children.
