LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR tennis team (4-2) will
get back on the road this weekend for the first three of seven-straight away
matches. The Trojans will take on Washburn (0-2) in Topeka, Kan. Saturday (Feb.
16) at 8:30 a.m. and then travel to Kansas City, Mo. the following day to play
a pair of matches against Rockhurst and UMKC.
UALR will
enter the weekend with freshman Kamilla
Galieva and senior Veronique Luksich
leading the Trojans with a 5-1 record in singles play. Sophomore Michaela McShane is undefeated in
singles action in four matches.
In doubles
action, sophomore Dané Vorster and
Galieva are 3-0 while Luksich and McShane are 2-2.
This is the
first meeting between UALR and Washburn under head coach Abby Wilson. WU lost its first match of the spring, 8-1, to UA-Fort
Smith, a team UALR bested 5-2. Jodie Blackim and Kristen Holle won 8-4 in No. 1
doubles. The Lady Blues fell to 0-2 when they were blanked on Feb. 3 against
Drury, 9-0.
Last year,
WU finished 11-8 overall. This will be its first home match of the season.
Rockhurst
enters the match with a 1-0 record, defeating Baker with a 9-0 victory on Feb.
8. The Hawks were led by Alex Schelbe at third singles, beating Baker's Kelly
Phipps 6-1, 6-0. Schlebe teamed with Kim de Groot at second doubles for the 8-3
win.
UMKC is 2-3
for the year after losing 4-3 to Northern Iowa last weekend.
Last year,
the Trojans defeated UMKC, 7-0 on April 7, 2012. UALR swept all singles
matches, led by Luksich's 6-2, 6-0 win over Eva Dalvai at the top spot. Viktoriya Plyuta won at second singles,
6-1, 6-3, over Laura Bouet.

matches this weekend, UALR takes a day off before four matches in five days.
The stretch begins against Creighton on Tuesday (Feb. 19) before battling Nebraska-Omaha
on Wednesday (Feb. 20). Both matches are at noon.
