DESERT, Calif. - The UALR men's golf team moved up four
spots in the final day at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate to place 10th
of 17 teams. Senior Nicklaus Benton
led the Trojans with a final round 74 (2+) to give him a three-day total of
seven-over par 223, tying him for 34th overall.
Sophomore Alfred
Kerstis tied for 36th overall with a three-day total of
eight-over par 224 after firing a final-round 76 (+4). Sophomore Ben Etchebarne and junior Luis Cedeno both put up final round
scores of three-over par 75. Etchebarne finished tied for 69th
overall with a three-day total of 233 (+17), while Cedeno posted a three-day
total of 239 (+23). Sophomore Colby
Benton fired a final-round 84 to finish at 242 (+26) for the tournament.
TCU took first place honors as a team, finishing the
tournament at 845 (-19) and as the only team to finish under par for the event.
St. Mary's (Calif.) earned the runner-up finish with a three day total of
six-over par 870, and San Francisco and Texas Tech tied for third place with
identical three-day totals of 10-over par 874.
TCU also claimed the top-two individual finishers in
the tournament. Julien Brun finished first overall with a 10-under par 206
three-day total. Brun fired a five-under par 67 in Sunday's final round. The
Horned Frogs' Eli Cole placed second with a five-under par 211 after shooting a
three-under par 69 in his final round. Texas Tech's Finley Ewing IV placed
third amongst individuals with three-under par 213.
UALR will next compete at the Argent Financial Classic
at Squire Creek CC in Choudrant, La., on March 11-12.
