The UALR men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up the first
day of competition at the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships on
Sunday evening at the Convocation Center. The Arkansas State women lead the
field after five scored events on Sunday, while the Western Kentucky men are in
first place on the men's side.
The UALR men currently rank ninth after collecting nine
points in day one, while the Trojan women are still searching for their first
points of the championships.
Shaun
Koehn,
Casey Lane, Alex Ebmeyer and Caleb
Hanson highlighted day one for the Trojans by placing third in the finals
of the men's distance medley (10:17.01). The third-place finish earned five
points for the UALR men. Jason Belt placed
sixth in the finals of the men's shot put (16.20m) to earn three UALR points. Dalton Richey accounted for the final
UALR point by placing 17th in the finals of the men's 3,000m run
(9:07.04). Teammate Caleb DeLaPaz placed
19th (9:09.59) in the same race.
In other action for the UALR men, Victor Shores placed 17th
in the finals of the men's long jump (16.16m).
For the women, Tori
Copeland, Mackenzie Bloom, Tachara Thomas and Marissa DeLaPaz placed 10th in the finals of the women's
distance medley (12:34.98) to earn the top finish of the day for the UALR women.
Rebekah
Grissom placed 12th in the finals of the women's
shot put (12.88m), while teammate Melissa
Chunn placed 16th (11.98m) in the same event.
Breanne
Mitchell added a 22nd-place finish in the women's
3,000m run (11:28.58).
Action resumes on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Convocation
