- The UALR men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed action at
the Rhodes Open on Saturday. The Trojans collected three individual
titles and added 14 top-five finishes over the course of the event.
The Trojans had the most success in the throwing
events, where Jason Belt and Rebekah Grissom combined for three
individual wins. Belt earned first place in the men's discus with a throw of
49.44m, while Grissom picked up top honors in the women's discus (43.80m) and
javelin throw (35.38m). Grissom added a fourth-place finish in the women's shot
put (12.96m), while Belt finished third in the men's shot put (14.30m) and
seventh in the hammer throw (46.26m). Melissa
Chunn added a sixth-place finish in the women's shot put (12.03m).
UALR picked up two runner-up finishes in a pair of men's
relay events. First, the Trojans took second in the 4x100m relay, as Taron Dunn, Basil Rogers, Dylan Wood
and Casey Lane clocked in at 42.27. UALR
then placed second in the 4x800m relay. Shaun
Koehn, Dalton Richey, Alex Ebmeyer and Nathan Carr finished in 7:55.79.
On the women's side, Marissa DeLaPaz, Emma Dahl,
Tori Copeland and Mackenzie Bloom placed second in the
4x800m relay (10:02.91).
Individually, Taron
Dunn placed second in the men's triple jump (14.45m) and Casey Lane placed second in the 400m
hurdles (55.06).
In the men's sprints, Wood placed fourth overall in the
men's 100m dash (10.97). Basil Rogers
(22.13) and Ebmeyer (22.46) placed fourth and 11th, respectively in
the men's 200m dash. Carr placed sixth in the 400m dash (49.57).
In other field events, Victor Shores placed eighth in the men's triple jump (13.33m) and Troy Smith placed 12th in
the men's high jump (1.88m).
In women's distance events, Bloom placed third in the
women's mile (5:22.66), while DeLaPaz placed sixth (5:31.79) and Copeland
placed seventh (5:34.02) in the same event.
John
Vodacek paced the UALR men with a ninth-place finish in the
5,000m run (15:49.57).
Brittney
Brasuell placed sixth in the 400m hurdles (1:09.33).
Tachara
Thomas placed 10th in the women's 200m dash (26.05).
Thomas placed ninth in the women's 400m dash (1:00.83). Ashtin Boykin placed seventh in the 100m hurdles (15.35) and placed
fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:06.30).
UALR will next compete at the Stanford Invitational
(March 29-30) and UCA Open (March 30).
