LITTLE ROCK – The UALR men’s golf team is tied for first place after one day at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic on Monday at Chenal Country Club. Junior Nick Zimmerman sits in second place overall and sophomore Alfred Kerstis is tied for third overall after the first two rounds of play.
Zimmerman’s opening round 73 (+1) tied for the best opening-round score amongst all individuals on Monday. The North Little Rock-native followed it up with a 76 (+3) in his second round for a two-round total of 149 (+4). Kerstis shot a seven-over par 79 in round one but bounced back with an even-par 72 to finish at 151 (+6) for the day. Zimmerman’s and Kerstis’ rounds helped UALR to a tie for the lead after one day of competition, as both the Trojans and Abilene Christian posted two-round team totals of 612 (+36).
Abilene Christian’s Alex Carpenter leads all individuals with a two-round total of 142 (-2) that included a three-under par 69 in round two – the lowest individual score of any player in either round on Monday. Teammate Corbin Renner is tied for third overall after shooting 76-75 for a two-round total of 151 (+6).
Stephen F. Austin sits in third place overall at 618 (+42), while Southeastern Louisiana (620, +44) and Oral Roberts (630, +54) round out the top five.
Senior Nicklaus Benton sits at 156 (+12) after shooting 77-79 in his first and second rounds, respectively. Sophomore Colby Benton also finished at 156 (+12) after two rounds after shooting back-to-back round of 78 on Monday.
Play in the final round will begin on Tuesday at Chenal Country Club with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
