CONWAY, Ark. – The men accumulated numerous top finishes in the track events while the women finished strong in the field events as the UALR Track and Field teams took part in the Central Arkansas Open this Weekend (March 29-30).
Senior Nathan Carr captured the 800m event with a time of 1:53.55. Junior Rebekah Grissom put the exclamation point on a strong weekend of competition with a title in the shot put with a mark of 42’9.75” (13.05m).
Other top finishes for Grissom include a third in the javelin (112’6”, 34.30m) and a fourth-place finish in the discus (95’4”, 29.06m).
In other women field events, freshman Melissa Chunn finished second in the discus with a throw of 101’3” (30.88m). Chunn also took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 38’0.75” (11.60m).
Sophomore Tori Copeland took third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:56.75.
On the men’s side, sophomore Casey Lane took second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.21 while junior Shaun Koehn also took second in the 5000m with a time of 14:49.50. The 4x100 relay finished third with a time of 42.33.
To round out top finishers, freshmen Alex Ebmeyer in the 800m and Basil Rogers in the 100m both took fourth with times of 1:56.31 and 10.98, respectively.
The UALR track and field teams return to action on April 13 when they take part in the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
