LITTLE ROCK – UALR junior shortstop Austin Pfeiffer has been named the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Pfeiffer helped lead the Trojans to a perfect 4-0 record over the last week of play, hitting .500 (7-for-14) with six RBI and a home run.
Pfeiffer began his week by scoring two runs and reaching base four times in the Trojans’ 10-4 win over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday, March 26. In UALR’s weekend series against ULM, Pfeiffer put up multiple hits in all three of the Trojans’ victories. His 2-for-4 effort on Friday helped UALR to a 3-2 win over the Warhawks, while his 3-for-4 effort with three runs scored and a homer propelled the Trojans to an 11-3 victory on Saturday. The Benton, Ark.-native ended his weekend by going 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in UALR’s 13-3 win on Sunday.
Pfeiffer was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts and boasted a .786 slugging percentage and .650 on-base percentage over the four-game span.
On the season, Pfeiffer is hitting .343 and leads both UALR and the Sun Belt Conference with 12 stolen bases. Pfeiffer also ranks sixth in the league in runs scored (26), ranks ninth in OBP (.446) and is tied for fifth in assists (79).
UALR returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Conway, Ark., to face UCA at Bear Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
