MCKINNEY, Texas – The UALR men’s golf team combined to shoot a final-round 302 (+14) to place third at the Jim West Intercollegiate on Tuesday at TPC Craig Ranch. Junior Nick Zimmerman led UALR with a two-over par 74 in his final round to finish in a tie for 12th with a three-round total of 223 (+7) for the tournament.
Vanderbilt (885) took team honors after combining for a team total of 292 (+4) in Tuesday’s final round. Oral Roberts placed second at 892 after a team score of 294 (+6) in the third and final round. The leader after two rounds of play, UALR ended the tournament at 893, eight shots back of the winner. Texas State (894) and Stephen F. Austin (897) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bryce Emory of Northern Illinois and Sarosh Adi of TCU, who played as an individual, tied for the individual championship.
Senior Nicklaus Benton fired a four-over 76 in his final round to finish just a shot back of Zimmerman and in a tie for 16th overall at 224 (+8). Sophomore Alfred Kerstis tied for 21st after a final-round 75 put him at 226 (+10) for the tournament. Sophomore Colby Benton finished at 228 (+12) for the event after shooting a five-over 77 on Tuesday, while classmate Johann Voss shot a final-round 83 to finish at 231 (+15).
Tuesday’s final round serves as the Trojans’ last tune-up before the Sun Belt Championships on April 21-24 in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
