CONWAY, Ark. – The UALR track and field finished off a busy weekend Saturday (April 20) at the Long Beach State Invite in Norwalk, Calif. and the Hendrix Invite in Conway, Ark.
The Trojans started competition Thursday (April 18) at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., freshman Emma Dahl ran in the 3000m steeplechase for the first time in her collegiate career, finishing ninth with a time of 10:54.11, the third-best time in school history. It was also the third-best time in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
On Friday (April 19) at the Mt. Sac Relays, senior Nathan Carr finished 39th in the 800m, crossing the line in 1:52.40. Junior Shaun Koehn turned in a personal best in the 5000m, finishing 17th with a time of 14:42.33, the fifth-best time in school history. It is also the fifth top-time in the Sun Belt this season.
At the Long Beach Invite Saturday (April 20), Carr came in 33rd with a time of 3:57.59 in the 1500m. Freshman Alex Ebmeyer finished 53rd in the 800m with a career-best outdoor time of 1:55.35.
On the women's side at Long Beach State, senior Marissa DeLaPaz shaved nearly 10 seconds off her season-best in the 5000m, finishing fifth with a time of 18:35.41. Dahl came in 49th in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in 4:47.04.
At the Hendrix Invite, senior Taron Dunn took a first and runner-up finish. Dunn took the triple jump title with a mark of 46’6.25” (14.8m) followed by a season-best jump with a runner-up finish in the long jump. Dunn leapt 22’1.50” (6.74m).
Also in the men’s triple jump, freshman Victor Shores took third with a season-best mark of 45’0.50” (13.73m). Shores also took fifth in the long jump with a career-best mark of 21’5.25” (6.53m).
In the women’s track events at the Hendrix Invite, junior Ashtin Boykin took third in both the 100m and 400m hurdles. She finished with a time of 15.23 in the 100m hurdles before finishing 1:07.28 in the 400m hurdles.
Junior Rebekah Grissom won three events. She turned in a career-best mark of 132’3” in the javelin, the sixth-best distance in the Sun Belt this season. It was also the second-best mark in school history. Grissom took the shot put with a throw of 41’10.75” (12.77m), while she won the discus with a throw of 129’5” (39.44m).
Finally, freshman Melissa Chunn turned in a solid weekend. She finished second in the shot put with a career-best mark of 40’2.25” (12.25m). Chunn also finished fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 105’9.25m” (32.23m).
UALR returns to action next weekend (April 27) in the final tune-up before the Sun Belt Championships at the Red Wolf Open in Jonesboro, Ark.
