LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – UALR track and field returns to action Saturday (April 27) at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. Besides the Trojans, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas, Harding, Memphis and Southeast Missouri State will also be competing.
It will be the final regular season meet of the spring 2013 season for the Trojans.
Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. will be the men’s and women’s hammer throw. The women’s 3000m steeplechase and women’s javelin throw kicks off the day Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

Last weekend, UALR competed at a trio of locations with four event wins. At the Hendrix Invite on April 20, junior Rebekah Grissom won all three events she competed in. She turned in a career-best mark of 132’3” in the javelin, the sixth-best distance in the Sun Belt this season. It was also the second-best mark in school history. Grissom took the shot put with a throw of 41’10.75” (12.77m), while she won the discus with a throw of 129’5” (39.44m).
Senior Taron Dunn won the triple jump at Hendrix with a season-best distance of 45’0.50” (13.73m).
At the Mt. Sac Relays on April 18, freshman Emma Dahl ran the 3000m steeplechase for the first time in her collegiate career. Her time of 10:54.11 was both the third-best mark in school history and the third-best time in the conference this season.

For the season, four different athletes rank in the top-five in the Sun Belt in their respective events. Besides Dahl, Shaun Koehn turned in the fifth-best time in the 5000m among SBC competitors with a 14:42.33 at the Mt. Sac Relays last weekend.
Senior Nathan Carr’s 1:52.19 in the 800m at the Ole Miss Invite on April 13 is third in the conference while Dunn is fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 48’1.75” (14.67m) at the Ole Miss Invite.
Following the Red Wolves Open, the UALR track and field teams return to action May 10-12 for the 2013 Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Miami.
