LITTLE ROCK – Senior Chance Cleveland has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after his complete-game shutout in UALR’s 5-0 win over Western Kentucky on Friday, the league office announced on Monday.
Cleveland fanned ten WKU hitters in Friday’s win, including five-straight at one point, and allowed just one free base on a walk in the top of the first inning. Friday marked Cleveland’s second-straight three-hit outing and the fifth time in his last six starts allowing two runs or fewer. The complete-game effort was his fourth of the season, while his 10 K’s were one shy of his season high.
Currently, Cleveland leads the SBC in opposing batting average (.205) and innings pitched (80.0), and ranks second in the league in strikeouts (77).
Today marks the second Pitcher of the Week honor in Cleveland’s career, as he also won the award on March 26, 2012 after allowing two runs on three hits while racking up a career-high 12 strikeouts in a win over Troy (3/23/12).
