LITTLE ROCK – The UALR baseball team (28-26, 13-17 SBC) will compete as the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 seed South Alabama (40-16, 20-10 SBC) in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament on Wednesday, May 22 at 4 p.m. The tournament will be held at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field in Lafayette, La., from Wednesday through Sunday.
UALR capped its regular season by taking two of three from instate rival Arkansas State in Jonesboro to not only clinch a spot in the postseason tournament, but slide ahead of ASU and lock up the No. 7 seed.
Earlier this season, South Alabama swept UALR in a three-game series when the two teams met on March 22-24 in Mobile, Ala. The Jaguars captured one-run victories in games one and two, before earning an 11-1 victory over UALR in game three.
This season the SBC tournament moves back to the double-elimination tournament after two years of pool play. Teams begin play on Wednesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. and the tournament will be conducted over five days culminating with the Championship Game on Sunday, May 26 at 1 p.m. CT. All games will be available via web stream on the Sun Belt Digital Network. The championship game will be aired on the Sun Belt Network.
Championship festivities get underway on Tuesday night with Championship Family Night, a celebration of this season’s accomplishments both on and off the field for the student-athletes in attendance. There will be a home run derby, autograph session, baseball cards for the fans and much more.
