Release: 06/05/2013

LITTLE ROCK – The UALR baseball program is currently enjoying a strong turnout at the first of two UALR Baseball Youth Camp sessions at Gary Hogan Field. The first session concludes on Thursday, June 6, while the second session in scheduled for June 10-13. The Trojans also plan to host a Summer Hitting League on Wednesday nights that will run June 12-July 17.

“We’re very pleased with everyone who has come out this week. It’s been a lot of fun,” said head coach Scott Norwood. “We’ve seen some really good talent out here so far, and it’s great to see so much of the local community coming out and supporting UALR baseball.”

Cost for both the final Youth Camp session and the Hitting League is $100. Both will take place at Gary Hogan Field.

The Youth Camps offer young players (ages 6-12) the opportunity to build on his or her spring season in a fun and positive learning environment. Each day begins with stretching, and the campers then move from station to station learning the skills of the game from the UALR players and coaches. After skill sessions, the campers participate in games and competitions. Awards and prizes are given out during a short ceremony on the final day of camp. Players should bring a hat, glove, bat, cleats/spikes, running shoes or turf shoes, helmet and any other equipment they feel necessary to compete. Catchers must bring their own gear.

Check-in for the final Youth Camp session will be held at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 10, with the camp beginning promptly at 9 a.m. Walkups are welcome, but pre-registration is required to guarantee your free camp t-shirt upon arrival.

The Summer Hitting League will expose campers to the same techniques and fundamentals that are taught to the UALR players on a day-to-day basis. Campers will compete with other players their own age and will have the chance to learn in a low camper-to-instructor ratio to maximize individual instruction. This league will be open to any participants who fall within the age bracket (13-18), but space is limited.
