LITTLE ROCK – The UALR baseball program will once again be hosting a Champions Showcase Camp at Gary Hogan Field Aug. 24-25 for some of the best high school talent in the area. The fee for the one-day camp is $150 and will take place at the home of the UALR Trojans, Gary Hogan Field at Curran Conway Park.
This year’s showcase will feature coaches from many different schools along with UALR including: Memphis, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Dallas Baptist. Over two separate days the coaching staff will go through intense instruction with the campers and also some of the same drills that are used on the college level.
Interested campers will have two dates to choose from with a limited number of spots for each day. The showcase camp is intended for select 2014, 2015 and 2016 high school graduates.
For the players in the camp, they will be split up into teams and directed to different stations upon arrival. The hitting portion of the showcase will take place in UALR’s indoor facility where the camp coaches will instruct the campers on the same drills and techniques that have been used to vault the Trojans offense atop the Sun Belt Conference and among the nation’s leaders. Also, ball exit speed (Jugs reading) will be measured and mechanics will be evaluated during this part of the camp.
During the on-field portion, campers will first be evaluated at their position. Velocity will be recorded in miles per hour from each position and catchers will have their “pop times” recorded as well. After evaluations, a simulated game will take place on the field.
Along with the opportunity to be instructed and evaluated, each camper will have the opportunity to have their offensive and defensive performance videotaped. Those interested will be charged an additional $50 and the video will be emailed out as a YouTube link.
Check-in each day will start at 9 a.m. at Gary Hogan Field and the Showcase will start promptly at 10 a.m. For any other questions, please contact the UALR baseball office at 501-280-0759 or email email@example.com.
