MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior Paige Mason had a second-half equalizer and Kayla Turner scored the game-winner with 10 minutes to go as the UALR soccer team claimed a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Christian Brothers in an exhibition on Wednesday night.
The Bucs got on the board first with a breakaway goal in the 50th minute, but the Trojans struck back to tie the game just five minutes later. Taking a cross into the penalty box off the leg of freshman Dakotah Sparrman, Mason merely required a tap-in to bring the teams level at 1-1.
The contest remained tied for the next 25 minutes until Turner, another freshman, attempted a cross into the penalty area that the Bucs’ goalie misplayed. The ball went under her as she attempted to knock it away, and the ball bounced over the line to give UALR its winning strike.
The Trojans got solid goaltending from freshman Sara Cavanagh in the first half and junior transfer Kylie Wilson in the second.
“I was fairly pleased with our girls,” said first-year coach Adrian Blewitt. “We’re learning. ... It was sometimes messy, but I was pleased to see us trying to do good things.”
The Trojans play their first regular season game against Southern on Sunday at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
