LITTLE ROCK – The UALR women’s basketball program announced a challenging 2013-14 schedule on Monday that includes four dates against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams, a trip to face Texas and a home contest against LSU.
Besides LSU, which earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament last year as an at-large bid from the Southeastern Conference, the Trojans will travel to Oral Roberts (No. 15 seed, Nov. 30) and Tulsa (16, Dec. 7) while also playing host to South Dakota State (13, Dec. 29) to round out their four opponents from 2013’s national tournament. LSU reached the Sweet 16 last season while Oral Roberts, Tulsa and South Dakota State were all eliminated in the first round.
UALR’s biggest road trip of the year pits the Trojans against Texas in Austin on Dec. 4, three days before a quick turnaround against Tulsa. The Longhorns finished last season 12-18 in the always strong Big 12.
“This is one of the most competitive non-conference schedules we’ve played,” said 11th-year head coach Joe Foley. “We should be finding out a lot about our young group when we face this caliber of competition.”
UALR will play a total of 14 games at the Jack Stephens Center. Season tickets are now available on the UALR website, or you can order by phone through the UALR ticket office at (501)-565-UALR.
Other out-of-conference games on the UALR schedule in 2013-14 include Sam Houston State to open the season in the Jack Stephens Center (Nov. 10), Missouri State on the road, (Nov. 13), Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg (Nov. 19), Memphis at home (Nov. 22), Incarnate Word in Little Rock (Dec. 10) and Louisiana Tech in The Bayou State (Dec. 20).
The league season begins for the Trojans in early January with a trip to new Sun Belt Conference members Texas State (Jan. 2) and UT-Arlington (Jan. 4).The Trojans will play their last regular-season Sun Belt game against Western Kentucky on Feb. 8 at home, and the regular season concludes with a home date against ULM on March 8.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament, moved this year to New Orleans, runs from March 12-15 in Ralston Arena.
