WOLCOTT, Colo. – The UALR women’s golf team is tied for 14th following the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Fazio Course of the Red Sky Golf Club. The Trojans combined for a 40-over par 328 in Monday’s opening round, tying them with James Madison and leaving them six shots back of Morehead State in 13th place.
Junior Sofia Berglund put up the low round for UALR on Monday, finishing at eight-over par 80 on the 6,262-yard, par-72 layout. Classmate Katie Reid and sophomore Stina Resen are two shots back of Berglund at 10-over 82 and tied for 53rd place. Freshman Melodie Jean Dit Berthelot sits tied for 66th after a 12-over 84 in her opening round. Junior Sofie Kvarnstrom is at 13-over 85 and tied for 73rd.
Pepperdine leads the 18-team field after combining for a one-over team score of 289 on Monday. TCU sits 12 shots back, while Denver is at 15-over 303 and alone in third place.
The Waves’ roster features three players in a tie for first place at one-under 71. Pepperdine’s Alina Ching, Marissa Chow and Grace Na all sit atop the leaderboard after matching scores of 71 in the opening round. Ball State’s Jenna Hague, FIU’s Meghan MacLaren, TCU’s Sanna Nuutinen and UCA’s Malin Senneryd are tied for fourth following even par rounds of 72.
Play will resume with round two on Tuesday. Tee times begin at 9:45 a.m.
