WOLCOTT, Colo. – After starting the day in a tie for 14th place, the UALR women’s golf team moved up three spots into sole possession of 11th place at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. Junior Sofia Berglund led the Trojans for the second consecutive day, firing an even-par 72 in round two to stay at eight-over for the tournament and move into a tie for 12th place.
Berglund moved up 32 spots over the course of round two and was one of just five players to finish the second day at Red Sky Golf Club with a round of even par or better. She will enter Wednesday’s final round just two shots back of cracking the top ten for the second straight event.
The Trojans bettered their round one total by 15 shots, finishing with a 25-over par 313 on Tuesday to move the team to 65-over for the tournament.
Pepperdine maintained sole possession of first place with an eight-over 296 in round two, putting the Waves at nine-over par through two days. UC Davis is the closest competitor in the field and currently sits 22 shots back of the lead at 31-over par for the event. East Tennessee State is 33-over par and in third place. TCU and Denver are tied for fourth at 42-over par.
The Waves’ Marissa Chow leads the pack of 89 individuals at three-under par for the tournament following a two-under 70 on Tuesday. Teammate Grace Na is a stroke back in second place.
Sophomore Stina Resen shot a seven-over 79 and is tied for 51st at 17-over par for through two rounds. Junior Sofie Kvarnstrom is tied for 58th at 19-over following a six-over 78 on Tuesday. Freshman Melodie Jean Dit Berthelot (+24) is tied for 68th and junior Katie Reid (+27) is tied for 78th.
The third and final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge will begin Wednesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Live scoring can be followed by clicking here.
