WOLCOTT, Colo. – Junior Sofia Berglund picked up her second straight top-10 finish after ending the Golfweek Conference Challenge in a tie for eighth place. Berglund carded a one-over 73 on the Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club in Wednesday’s final round to put her at nine-over par for the tournament.
After opening with an eight-over 80 on Monday, Berglund moved up 32 spots in Tuesday’s second round with an even-par 72. She began Wednesday in a tie for 12th place, but her final-round 73 moved her up the leaderboard and into position for her second top-10 finish in as many events, already exceeding her total from a year ago.
The Trojans combined for a team score of 25-over par 313 for the second straight round to finish alone in 12th place. Pepperdine finished the tournament at five-over par to earn first-place honors, finishing 36 shots ahead of runner-up UC Davis (+41). TCU (+46) placed third, while Denver and East Tennessee State tied for fourth at 53-over par.
A final-round 68 allowed Pepperdine’s Grace Na to move to six-under and leapfrog teammate Marissa Chow (-4) for medalist honors. Chow placed second, while TCU’s Sanna Nuutinen finished third at one-over par for the tournament.
Junior Sofie Kvarnstrom finished with a two-over 74 on Wednesday to move into a tie for 44th place at 21-over for the tournament. Sophomore Stina Resen finished at 31-over and tied for 64th place, a stroke ahead of teammate Melodie Jean Dit Berthelot (+32). Junior Katie Reid finished at 42-over for the tournament.
UALR will be back in action next week when it travels to Tulsa, Okla., for the ORU Shootout. The two-day event begins Monday, Sept. 30 at Meadowbrook CC.
