LITTLE ROCK – The UALR men’s golf team will play in its second event for the season at the HBU Husky Invitational beginning Monday, Sept. 30 in Montgomery, Texas. Hosted by Houston Baptist, the event will be played on the 6,912-yard, par-72 layout at Wood Forest Golf Club.
In addition to UALR and Houston Baptist, competing teams include New Orleans, Nicholls State, Abilene Christian, ULM, UTPA, Incarnate Word, Stephen F. Austin, North Dakota, McNeese State, Florida Atlantic, Northwood and Sam Houston State.
In UALR’s first event of the season, the Trojans finished in a tie for fourth at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. UALR ended the event at 23-over and began the final round tied for the lead, but a team score of 12-over 296 on Monday moved them into a tie for fourth with Northern Iowa and placed them seven strokes back of winner Loyola-Chicago (+16).
Junior Johann Voss led the Trojans with a career-best finish, tying for sixth place after a three-under par 68 in the final round. Junior Alfred Kerstis ended the event in a tie for 12th at five-over 218, just four strokes back of the lead.
Following their tournament in Texas, the Trojans will next compete at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C., beginning Monday, Oct. 7.
