LITTLE ROCK – After one week away from running, the UALR cross country teams are back in action this weekend when they host the UALR Invite at the Rebsamen Golf Course on Saturday.
The women will race first in a 5K at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 11 a.m. in an 8K race.
Competing against the Trojans will be contingents from seven other schools including two Sun Belt Conference Rivals. In-state opposition includes Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, UAPB and Arkansas Tech. Sun Belt foe Louisiana joins the meet as does McMurry University from Texas.
The Trojans last saw action at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville on Oct. 5. There, the UALR men placed seventh while the women took 13th. Senior Shaun Keohn was named the Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week for his 44th-place finish. On the women’s side, freshman Rebekah Gibbons was the top finisher in 92nd place. Trojans runners George Gathuru and Emma Dahl have also been named SBC Runner of the Week after the team's season-opening race at the Gerald Richey Invite in Arlington, Texas.
Last season at the UALR Invite, the Trojan men defeated Central Arkansas and Arkansas State in dual meet scoring. The UALR women did not have enough runners participate to score. Two years ago, current senior Markus Pearson placed third overall.
Following Saturday’s race, the Trojans will have two weekends off to prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Nov. 2. The UALR men are the defending league champions.
