SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Freshman Erin Trumbach broke her own record in the 100 breaststroke by more than six tenths while classmate Courtney Coe took runner-up honors in the 100 butterfly as UALR finished the weekend fourth with 565.5 points at the Drury Invite.
“We are pretty happy with the way the team swam this weekend,” head coach Amy Burgess said. “It was great to see a lot of in-season best times and a lot of good racing.”
Drury captured its own invite title with 1,012.5 points.
Trumbach, who set the school standard in the 100 breaststroke in her first collegiate race, bested her own mark with a time of 1:07.41 to finish third. Junior Meghan Petersen also took sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.86.
Coe was the highest finisher on the weekend, leading a trio of Trojans who finished in the top 10 in the 100 butterfly. Coe touched the wall in 58.80, just 0.14 seconds behind Wait Ting Yu of Drury. Freshman Kaitlin Keltner took ninth with a time if 1:03.49 followed by freshman teammate Taylor Holz with a time of 1:04.64.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Coe, senior Kara Raney, freshman Jinson Kang and sophomore Valeriya Teplova took third in an exciting finish. Teplova out-touched a pair of other teams as UALR took third with a time of 3:38.01.
“I am particularly excited for the 400 free relay team because as it was a great way to end the meet. Valeriya had a great touch to out-touch Incarnate Word and Drury’s relay teams,” Burgess said.
In other individual events, Raney took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.46. Senior Holly Myers finished seventh in the event with a time of 1:01.79. Kang finished third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:41.37 while freshman Kayla Grimm took ninth, touching the wall in 4:48.86.
Raney led a trio of UALR swimmers in the 100 free. Raney (54.40) placed sixth, out-touching Teplova (54.43). Coe finished 10th with a time of 55.44. Holly Myers placed sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.43. Freshman Meghan Glogoza took 10th with a time of 2:23.49.
Other top finishes include a pair of sixth-place finishes. Petersen touched the wall in 2:41.11 in the 200 breaststroke while Kang finished the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:13.91.
In diving on the day, sophomore Megan Scott took eighth in the 11-dive, 1-meter springboard event with a total of 339.65.
UALR swimming and diving make its home debut of the 2013-14 season in its next competition, welcoming multiple teams for the annual Christmas Invitational Dec. 5-7 at the Donaghey Aquatic Center.
