LITTLE ROCK – Junior Breanne Mitchell has been named the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Student Athlete of the Week for the first week in December. A distance runner on the UALR track and field and cross country teams, Mitchell is pursuing a degree in health sciences and holds a 3.67 grade point average.
A native of Grass Valley, Calif., Mitchell ran all four races this cross country season for the Trojans, placing second among UALR runners at the Sun Belt Championship. Mitchell was the fourth Trojan runner across the finish line at the UALR Invite in October and the team’s third finisher at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville. Mitchell opened her 2013 season with a 36th-place effort at the Gerald Richey Invite in Arlington, Texas.
Mitchell competed indoors and outdoors during her first two years at UALR, taking seventh in the 800-meter race at the Bison Invitational last year. She also set a personal best in the mile indoors at Middle Tennessee last season.
Mitchell was also named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List following the 2012-13 school year for maintaining a grade point average above 3.5.
