LITTLE ROCK – Sophomore John Vodacek been named the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Student Athlete of the Week for the third week of January. A distance runner on the UALR cross country and track teams, Vodacek is pursuing a degree in finance and holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
A native of New Auburn, Wis., Vodacek has made an early impact on the UALR distance programs in his two years with the team. Last season, Vodacek helped the men to a Sun Belt Conference Championship in cross country, placing 38th as an individual on the winning Trojan team. During the 2013 cross country schedule, Vodacek came in 14th place at the Sun Belt Championship, earning All-Sun Belt Third Team Honors while pacing the Trojans to a second-place team finish.
On the track, Vodacek scored a point for the Trojans in the 10K at the Outdoor Sun Belt Conference Championships last season, breaking a career best with a time of 32:39.4. He also placed 14th in the 5K at the Long Beach Invite with a time of 15:22.70. At the end of the year, he was also named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List.
The UALR indoor track and field season resumes this weekend after more than a month off. The Trojans will travel to Jonesboro to take part in the Arkansas State Invite on Friday.
