Trojans Ready for Round-Robin Weekend at Gary Hogan Field

LITTLE ROCK – The UALR baseball team will return home for a weekend round-robin event with games against UIC, IPFW and Missouri at Gary Hogan Field. The Trojans’ first game of the event will be with UIC at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

After playing its first seven games at home UALR took a trip to Louisiana Tech and came back with an 11-2 win. The offense showed patience drawing 11 walks, seven in the nine-run seventh, and scored in double digits for the first time this season.

Once again the Trojans got a strong performance from Chad Bradford. The sophomore went 6.2 innings and didn’t allow a run in picking up his first win of the season. Bradford has now pitched 11.0 scoreless innings and allowed just 10 base-runners while striking out 10 batters.

Mitchell Scheuler led the offensive charge against the Bulldogs with two hits and four RBIs. Scheuler and Tanner Rockwell are tied for the team lead in RBIs with 10. Justin Steelmon also had two hits and is now leading the team in hitting with a .360 batting average and a .515 on-base percentage.

About UIC

The Flames are 3-4 and coming off being swept by No. 2 Vanderbilt... They were picked to finish second in the Horizon League before the start of the season... The team finished 27-28 (13-11, Horizon League) and placed second in the conference.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE FLAMES

UALR and UIC have met played one three-game series against each other with the Trojans taking 2-of-3 in Feb. of 2000.

ABOUT IPFW

The Mastodons are coming off a 22-32 season and they finished 9-21 in the Summit League... IPFW was picked to finish fifth in the five-team league in 2014... The team is coached by Bobby Pierce entering his sixth season at IPFW.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE MASTODONS

UALR and IPFW have met six times on the diamond with UALR holding a 5-1 lead in the all-time series... The two teams met for a three-game series in 2011 when the Trojans took two-of-three from the Mastodons at Gary Hogan Field. 

ABOUT MISSOURI

The Tigers are 3-5 entering the weekend with all of their games being played away or at neutral sites... They were picked to finish seventh in the SEC East 18-32 (10-20, SEC) last season.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE TIGERS

UALR and Missouri have split their previous two matchups on the diamond... The Trojans took the first meeting in 2000 and the Tigers even the series in 2012.

QUICK PITCHES

  • Ben Crumpton is within single digits of UALR’s all-time career steals record with 54, just nine behind Miguel Miranda’s 63.
  • If Crumpton scores two times this weekend he will become the Trojans sixth player to cross the plate 100 times in his career.
  • In a similar round-robin event last season UALR went 3-1 with two wins over Iowa and a win over Western Illinois after losing its opener to Wichita State.
  • Jesse Harbin, Cory Malcom and Tanner Rockwell have combined to pitch 18.0 innings in relief in 11 appearances without allowing a run. The trio has eight hits and struck out 17 batters.
