SAUCIER, Miss. – Sophomore Matias Calderon will enter the final day of the Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship tied for ninth place. Calderon carded a 1-over par 73 for the second consecutive day at Grand Bear Golf Club on Tuesday, leaving him at 2-over 146 for the tournament.
Calderon shot 2-over on the front nine on Tuesday before rebounding with three birdies to shoot 2-under over his final nine holes. The sophomore will start Wednesday 10 strokes back Texas State’s Stuart Smallwood, who sits at 8-under par for the tournament after shooting back-to-back rounds of 4-under 68. Easton Key of Arkansas State is four strokes back in second place, while three players from Georgia State, South Alabama and UT Arlington are tied for third place at 3-under par.
As a team, Georgia State leads the field at even-par 576 through two rounds. UT Arlington, who opened Tuesday with a two shot lead, with enter the final round at 2-over 578 and in second place. South Alabama (584) sits third. UALR is in 10th place with a two-round total of 604.
Junior Johann Voss moved up five spots on Tuesday into a tie for 17th place. Voss shot a 3-over 75 to place him at 5-over for the tournament. Senior Ben Etchebarne sits at 9-over 153 following a 5-over 77 Tuesday. Freshman Noah Tullos is at 12-over 156 through 36 holes.
The third and final round will be played Wednesday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. Live sccoring will be available through GolfStat.com.
