SAUCIER, Miss. – Junior Johann Voss shot a 1-under par 71 to move up eight spots into a tie for 14th place Wednesday in the final round of the Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship at Grand Bear Golf Club. Voss racked up four birdies on the day to finish the event at 4-over 220, just three shots outside of the top 10.
Georgia State won the event with a team total of 863, just a shot in front of second-place South Alabama (864). UT Arlington, who led following Tuesday’s second round, placed third with a team score of 865. Louisiana (876) and Texas State (884) rounded out the top five. UALR placed 10th with a team score of 902.
Texas State’s Stuart Smallwood earned medalist honors with a combined score of 8-under 208, including an even-par 72 on Wednesday. Tyler Klava of South Alabama and Damon Stephenson of Georgia State tied for second at 5-under 211.
Voss ended the tournament as UALR’s top finisher, followed by sophomore Matias Calderon, who tied for 26th at 8-over 224. Senior Ben Etchebarne carded a 4-over 76 in his final round to finish at 13-over 229 for the tournament. Junior Alfred Kerstis finished at 16-over 232 and freshman Noah Tullos ended the event at 18-over 234.
