LITTLE ROCK – One week after splitting up into two different states for four different competitions, the UALR track and field team will be back in one piece for the A-State Red Wolves Open in Jonesboro on Friday and Saturday.
The Trojans will get a chance to see two Sun Belt Conference opponents at the meet – Arkansas State and Western Kentucky – as well as competitors from Ohio State, Memphis, Ole Miss, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois, Central Arkansas, Arkansas Baptist and Harding. This will be the third year this meet is contested.
UALR’s regular season will come to an end on Saturday as well, as the Trojans will follow the Red Wolves Open with a week off to prepare for the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in early May.
The competition gets started on Friday afternoon with throwing and distance events, most notably the 3K steeplechases at 6:30 p.m. and the 5K runs at 7:15 p.m. UALR’s Emma Dahl currently holds the 18th-fastest time in the steeplechase this year.
Track and field events both begin again Saturday at 11 a.m. The schedule rolls from there, with events expected to wrap up in the late afternoon.
Live results will be available online for both days of the competition.
Last week, UALR competed in three different meets in California while also taking part in the UCA Open in nearby Conway. Highlights from last week included Casey Lane’s second consecutive record-breaking run in the 400 hurdles, Dahl’s personal best in the 1500, Cheryl Nolan entering the UALR top 10 in the 1500, Joseph Aguilar doing the same in the 5K, John Vodacek winning the 5K in Conway and Rebekah Grissom placing in the top four in three different throwing events.
Following Saturday, UALR will have some time off to ready for the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships. This year’s championships take place from May 9-11 on the campus of Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
