UALR Sports Information
Release: 04/25/2014

LITTLE ROCK – After two in-state midweek games the Trojans will return to Sun Belt play as they travel to take on the Hilltoppers at Nick Denes Field.

UALR picked up two wins in last week’s conference series against Troy and is now two games in the loss column behind ULM, Troy and South Alabama in the standings.

Game one of the series is Friday night at 6:00 p.m. with game two on Saturday getting underway at 3:00 p.m. The series will wrap up at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Trojans have split their two midweek games with both games decided by one run. The team fell at UAPB 6-5 in extra innings before holding off Central Arkansas to come away with a 7-6 win. Tanner Rockwell and Austin Pfeiffer spearheaded the UALR effort this week. Rockwell collected the game winning hit in the bottom of the eighth before picking up the save by shutting down the Bears. Pfeiffer extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-run home run against UCA.

Western Kentucky is off to a 21-19 start with a 9-9 record in Sun Belt play, which is good for a tie for fourth place... Last weekend the Hilltoppers won a home series against South Alabama by taking the last two games... Miller Anderson is the key to the WKU offense; the sophomore outfielder is hitting .356 with 13 extra-base hits... The ace of the pitching staff is Justin Hageman who owns a 4-1 record and a 2.90 ERA.

UALR and WKU have met 78 times on the diamond with WKU holding a 45-33 lead in the series... This will be the last conference series between the two schools as WKU prepares to move to Conference USA next season... The last time UALR traveled to WKU the teams split the first two games before WKU won the rubber match in the 10th inning... In 2013 the Trojans swept the Hilltoppers in a series at Gary Hogan Field... In that series Ben Crumpton batted .583 and stole three bases while Bryson Thionnet hit two home runs and drove in eight.

  • Against WKU, Scott Norwood is 9-7 including last year’s sweep of the Hilltoppers. However, the Trojans are 3-6 in Bowling Green under Norwood.
  • Jesse Harbin is on pace to break the school’s single-season record allowing opponents to hit just .193 off of him.
  • Austin Pfeiffer is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak in which he is hitting .400 with two home runs and has scored 11 times.
  • Ben Crumpton is second in the school’s single-season stolen base list 10 behind John Polson’s record of 38.
  • Bryson Thionnet has 20 career home runs and is two away from tying Guy Giuffre’s school record of 22.
