LITTLE ROCK – Men’s basketball junior Ben Dillard has been named to the Sun Belt Conference Leadership Team, the league office announced at its annual Honors Banquet on Tuesday.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Sun Belt Conference,” said Dillard. “I’d like to thank my coaching staff and everyone involved in the process.”
Dillard is one of 10 student-athletes named to the Leadership Team, which honors letter-winning student-athletes based on leadership, sportsmanship, community service, citizenship, academic excellence and any other qualities valued by the institution.
The Trojans’ career leader in 3-point field goal percentage, Dillard has knocked down 41.5 percent of his shots from long range in his three seasons at UALR. He will go into his final season with the Trojans ranked sixth on UALR’s career free throw shooting list at 82.0 percent.
Dillard appeared in 29 games with 21 starts as a junior in 2013-14, averaging 7.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He shot 41.5 percent from the floor, including 39.7 percent from 3-point range, and 83.5 percent from the foul line. His 211 points, 60 rebounds, 25 assists, 20 steals and 714 minutes played were all career highs.
A 6-2 guard, Dillard scored in double digits 10 times on the season and knocked down multiple 3-pointers in eight games. He scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and a 3-of-4 effort from 3-point range against Jacksonville State in the opening round of the BVI Tropical Shootout on Dec. 20. He matched his career high at Troy on Feb. 27, again totaling 18 points while shooting 4 of 8 from the floor and going 8 of 8 from the foul line.
The Frisco, Texas, native boasts a 3.02 cumulative GPA as a marketing major. He was an active member in UALR basketball’s Trojans for Education program, which included visits to local schools to speak on the importance of reading, writing and math. Dillard also made regular visits with the team to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
