FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – UALR sophomore Emma Dahl’s season came to a close Friday night at day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field West Regional. Competing in the third and final heat of the 3K steeplechase at John McDonnell Field, Dahl was unable to finish the race.
“She went out well,” said head coach Milton Williams. “She just got real fatigued with about 1600 left and had to drop.”
Dahl was UALR’s first-ever female qualifier for the NCAA West Regional. Had she finished in the top three of her heat or with one of the next three fastest times among all heats, she would have qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugune, Ore., in June.
Dahl’s season-best time of 10:15.20, set at the Stanford Invitational in April, was low enough for the 14th seed in the regional. Her time of 10:16.66 to open the season at the Rhodes Open on March 15 stood as the best time in the nation for the first three weeks of the outdoor season.
Dawn Williams-Sewer, who qualified in 1996 and 1997, is UALR’s only female to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
