LITTLE ROCK – UALR sophomore Tyler Reynolds earned a runner-up finish at the Fourth of July Classic championship at War Memorial Golf Course in Little Rock over the weekend. Reynolds shot 60-61-68 for a three-round total of 3-under 189 at the par-64, 4,341-yard course to finish one stroke shy of the winner.
After opening with a 4-under 60 on Friday, Reynolds was able to turn six birdies into a 3-under 61 on Saturday and take a one-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round. He shot a 3-over 35 on Sunday’s front nine but rebounded with birdies on holes 10 and 11. Reynolds led by a stroke following a par at the par-3 14th. However, eventual winner Chris Jenkins birdied the 15th to move into a tie before a bogey by Reynolds on 17 allowed Jenkins to take a one-stroke lead. Reynolds’ birdie putt on 18 was off the mark, leaving him a stroke shy of victory but giving him a runner-up finish for the second consecutive year.
Former UALR golfer Tracy Harris placed third with a final score of 2-under 190.
Reynolds sat out the 2013-14 season as a redshirt after transferring from UA Fort Smitih. He earned three top-10 finishes, one top-five finish and was named to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team in his one season with the Lions in 2012-13.
Playing for head coach Austin Trembley at Little Rock Christian Academy, Reynolds was a two-time All-Conference and All-State selection.
