Arturs Abolins joined the UALR Track and Field staff as an assistant coach in August of 2010 after competing for the University of Nebraska from 2004-07.  He will be assisting with jumps and sprints.

 

A native of Riga, Latvia, Abolins became the first Husker men’s athlete to win a national title in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2006.

 

Abolins holds the Nebraska record in the indoor long jump at 8.11m record in 2006 and the 4x100-meter relay team outdoor record of 39.19 recorded in 2005.

 

Other honors for Abolins include Big 12 Outdoor 4x100-meter Relay Champion in 2005, Big 12 Indoor Long Jump Champion in 2004 and 2006, and the Latvain indoor long jump national record holder.

 

Abolins graduated from Nebraska in 2007 with a degree in economics.
