LITTLE ROCK - The UALR tennis team kicks off its fall slate Friday when it travels to Lawrence, Kan. to take part in the KU Fall Invitational Sept. 21-23.

"This will be a good starting point to see where we are as a team," head coach Abby Wilson explained. "We are limited in our practice times because we can start earlier in the spring, so is great to get competition against the likes of Kansas, Kansas State and Arkansas State."

Other teams will make the trip to Kansas include UMKC, Texas-Arlington, Abilene Christian, South Dakota, Wichita State and Emporia.

With a young squad last season, coach Wilson is looking forward to the experience she is returning in -2012-2013. Yana Kakovkina and Veronique Luksich, who are seniors this season, were the first recruiting class under Wilson's tutelage.

"The two seniors have been in the top-3 singles position since they were freshmen, so they know what to expect and are great leaders. I am excited to see them in their final season at UALR," Wilson said.

Other returners include junior Viktoriya Plyuta and sophomore Michaela McShane. Freshman Christel Amsallem joins the Trojans for 2012-2013.

"It is a nice mixture of experience for the year while Christel is a great addition for the team," Wilson said.

After the weekend, the Trojans return to the Sunflower State in a month (Oct. 19-21) for another KU Fall Invitational.
